Investigation has
shown that there was
an 'Abram Brown' who
settled in the “Town
of Eldena” in 1849
on land belonging to
the Illinois Central
Railroad. No other
information is
available, nor is it
clear whether Abram
Brown was one and
the same man as in
the Nursery Rhyme.
The picture of North
Queen Street in
Pennsylvania seemed
to capture the idea
of a railway in an
early American town,
complete with
covered wagon.

Nursery Rhyme lyrics, origins and history
Old Abram
Brown is dead and gone,
You'll never see him more;
He used to wear a long brown coat
That buttoned down before.
